How do I check my Income Tax Refund Status?

Typically, an income tax return filing is awarded with a refund check (or direct deposit) because the majority of individual’s exceed their tax liability as a result of the government withholding a portion of the individual’s paycheck each pay period.

To check your income refund status you must first visit the Internal Revenue Service’s home page located at www.irs.gov. Once you are on the site, click on the navigation tab labeled “individuals”, then click on the tab that reads “Where’s my Refund?”

Once you are on the appropriate Income Tax Refund Status page, scroll down to the link that reads “Where’s my Refund” and proceed to open the “Where’s my Refund” tool.

Following these steps you will be taken to a page that describes the process of evaluating and observing your Income Tax Refund Status. Once you have inputted your Social Security number, you will be asked to choose your filing status: either a single; married-filing jointly; a married-filing but separate return; a head of household; or a qualified widower.

Following the submission of this information, you must then enter the refund amount in the space provided by the Internal Revenue Service. You must note that in order to obtain the income Tax Refund Status you must match the amount you are expecting to the computed amount that the IRS has on file for your return. After you have submitted your expected return, you must click “submit” where upon entering you will be taken to a new page where you will be given the expected delivery date for your refund.

The Income Tax Refund Status will award the individual taxpayer an expected date (that is subject to change) where the refund will be delivered to the individual’s bank account or the individual’s home address that is on file with the Internal Revenue Service.
